War veterans have a long history of PTSD, but not often is it conceptualized for the stage quite like Karel and Josef Capek do it. This particular production of The Insect Play focuses on a vet from the Iraqi War. The scenery is a microscopic desert, viewed through the eyes of an insect. Every surface is covered in a repeating, kaleidoscope of patterns, abstracting the landscape in a slighting off-putting way, reminiscent of a bug's faceted eyes.

A distorted fence is fixed by a grasshopper pulling bark off the trunk of the nearby plant, only to create a silhouette that becomes "the light" at the end of the moths' lives, as well as the life of the veteran.
